Hello World: The Day This Page Was Born

·2 min read

Today is the day this page comes to life.

Built with Next.js, deployed on Vercel, and brought together through a process I've come to think of as vibe coding — collaborating with Claude to write, debug, and ship something real without pretending I already know everything.

This is new territory for me. And I'm excited about it.

Shortcomings as a feature

One thing I've decided going in: I'm not going to hide what I don't know. The whole point of this exercise is exposure — to the tools, to the gaps in my understanding, and to the process of filling them.

Vibe coding has a reputation for being a shortcut. Maybe it is. But I think the real value isn't in the speed — it's in what happens when you stop and ask why.

Why does this component re-render here? Why does git reject this push? Why does DNS propagation take 48 hours? Every one of those questions is a door. You can walk through it or skip it. I plan to walk through as many as I can.

Let's see how it holds up

I have no idea how this experiment ages. Maybe in six months I'll look back at this codebase and cringe. Maybe I'll have iterated it into something genuinely interesting. Maybe both.

That feels about right. That's the whole philosophy, isn't it?

Life is about iteration. Let's iterate.
